Despite protestations, from American Indian tribes everywhere, that they do not view Indian team mascots as necessarily offensive, the NCAA "will ban the use of 18 Native American nicknames and mascots it considers "hostile or abusive" during its postseason tournaments beginning early next year, the organization announced Friday.  The move drew praise from groups that oppose such depictions but stirred controversy with a banned list that includes the Florida State Seminoles, the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Utah Utes, while granting exceptions to the San Diego State Aztecs and Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, among others."

I don't know what can be done at this point ...  wait,  I do actually.  The presidents of the schools involved ought to withdraw from the NCAA and form a league of their own.  It wouldn't get that far, of course, because conferences (ACC, Big Ten et al) would go ape over the lost revenue, scheduling problems etc., and the NCAA would back down.  But,  there is little chance that even two balls necessary can be found collectively in that group.

The people responsible for all this hullabaloo are a very vocal minority who were allowed by their communities to even get started.  Mistake. What old timers learned was that cultural outcasts, who slither like ice worms between molecules of constitutional law --  Madelyn Murray O'Hair is a good example,  and who outrage public sensibilities, will prolly be found in shallow graves sooner or later, so why not sooner?  I mean that in the good way.

And, I'm given to hyperbole. 

And, I am very, very pissed.
