" I don't think I've ever met a Liberal whom I didn't like on a personal basis. That said, if your goal is to change minds and influence people, it's probably not a good idea to begin by asserting that virtually all elected Democrats are liars. But what the hell."

Our Position on Obama's Election
The person you call President Obama ... ."

Thursday, December 15, 2005

"The answer is: 'Black history is American history.'"
Do you know how good it makes me feel to know that there is a movie star, whose work I love, and who, when he feels compelled to say something political, does not reveal himself as a complete airhead? I'm speaking about Morgan Freeman, who most recently narrated the March of the Penguins I raved about.  Listen to him on the subject of Black History Month (which seems to come around every 30 days).
"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" the 68-year-old actor says in an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to air Sunday (7 p.m. EST). "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."
  • Freeman notes there is no "white history month," and says the only way to get rid of racism is to "stop talking about it."
  •  The actor says he believes the labels "black" and "white" are an obstacle to beating racism.
  • "I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," Freeman says.

"I did not vote for Obama but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office he has collected more than $150,000 in back taxes."

Morgan Freeman is sooo cool. He's always been one of my favorites- I loved him in Bruce Almighty.

I liked him in Glory and Shawshank Redemption, both great movies.

I agree with him that the manner in which way we talk about racism perpetuates it. I went to a high school in the 50's that drew its students city-wide based on scholastic merit. I now remember that in spite of the bigotry still very prevalent at the time that we really didn't think of our few black classmates as "colored" or "Negro," but that they were just another one of the guys, because they spoke well and shared the school values of excellence, decency, hard work and fair play. Today they would be slammed by the race pimps as "acting white."

Finally theres a person who agrees with me I have been saying that for years. If people only treated each other like people (one race the HUMAN RACE) then racism could be put to rest.

I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man...

Well...only when you're using it as a descriptive. Such as...

"Steven?...oh yeah...he's the black guy working over in the tape libary department.

I don't ever wanna get *too* PC ; )

Every time I see the phrase "United Negro College Fund" I think - "It would be wrong for me to fund the "United White College Fund". Why is UNCF ok to exist? It just perpetuates the idea of racism.

So, yeah - I agree.

My "Secret Santa" gift at last nights company Christmas party was the DVD for March of the Penguins.

And as most of you probably know, during a Secret Santa gift exchange you can "trade" (i.e. steal) your gift with someone else.

That DVD must've gotten "traded" up about 5 times. I guess it's a lot more popular film than I realized.

Haven't seen it yet myself but I plan on renting it over Christmas.
