Suicidal glory is the luxury of the irresponsible.
We're not giving up. We're waiting for a better opportunity to win.

" I don't think I've ever met a Liberal whom I didn't like on a personal basis. That said, if your goal is to change minds and influence people, it's probably not a good idea to begin by asserting that virtually all elected Democrats are liars. But what the hell."

Our Position on Obama's Election
The person you call President Obama ... ."

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Same old same old
Going in to the 1996 presidential debates, I asked how is it possible  to debate a man who will answer any question with a lie, and never be challenged by  the media?  A media which the public has regretfully placed so much trust to explain to them that which they have just seen?  The answer was Four More Years, and that lesson is tattooed into the political brain of every democrat.

Tom Daschle, the former Democratic senator from South Dakota, remembers the exchange vividly.

The time was September 2002. The place was the White House, at a meeting in which President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney pressed congressional leaders for a quick vote on a resolution authorizing military action against Iraq.

But Daschle, who as Senate majority leader controlled the chamber's schedule, recalled recently that he asked Bush to delay the vote until after the impending midterm election.

"I asked directly if we could delay this so we could depoliticize it. I said: 'Mr. President, I know this is urgent, but why the rush? Why do we have to do this now?' He looked at Cheney and he looked at me, and there was a half-smile on his face. And he said: 'We just have to do this now.' "  -Timing Entwined War Vote, Election , By Ronald Brownstein
Tom Bevin correctly notes that:
"Brownstein is smart enough to know that Daschle sold him a bill of goods with this story, but he couldn't resist: the anecdote was just too juicy, too suggestive, and too perfect to support Brownstein's predetermined angle that the Bush administration politicized the Iraq vote by ramming it through Congress before the election.."Daschle's Dirty Revisionism"
Will this have any effect o the public debate?  Nope. Will  Brownstein be disciplined?  Nope.  It's the age we live in.  An age where a thing called the History Channel is brought to us by the same people responsible for ABC News.  We're screwed.

Comments:

"I did not vote for Obama but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office he has collected more than $150,000 in back taxes."
Gayle Miller
I remember. W played the d's good. A lot of the comments that we're(you) replaying now about how these scumbags said they felt about Saddam were said right before this vote. They had to try and appear hawkish. No way they wanted to be shown(at that time) against a popular war.

I'm hearing on Laura today some wonderful Lieberman bites. Hell, he's more outspoken than most Republicans.

It's a crazy world Rog, like they say, you could sell tickets.
