" I don't think I've ever met a Liberal whom I didn't like on a personal basis. That said, if your goal is to change minds and influence people, it's probably not a good idea to begin by asserting that virtually all elected Democrats are liars. But what the hell."

"I did not vote for Obama but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office he has collected more than $150,000 in back taxes."
Gayle Miller
In my dukedom, these irresponsible dunces, having miserably flunked Civics 1, would be denied the right to vote and transported to Iraq where they would wash our troops' underwear and socks and empty their portapotties until the end of the WOT. The only TV and radio allowed them in their time off would be CSPAN and Rush Limbaugh. The only reading material would be the US Constitution and the Federalist Papers. This material would be on the test.

Uh, Rodge, I hate to start trouble on your always moderate and soothing site; but...
the interviewees are all women.

I'm with tailgunner.

Depressing isn't it? My train of thought is this, the media is against vouchers and lines up with the teacher's unions to say vouchers would drain money from our education system. Vouchers would bring much needed competition into our schools and end the stranglehold of the NEA. It would also end the kind of functioning illiterates in Leno's bit. As parents, responsible ones anyway, looked around and saw the uselessness of most high school education, they'd be taking that voucher to an institution that would really be teaching their children. As more children grew up with a real education, a true understanding of our history and an ability to think, the media and our cultural toilet would have less and less of a deathgrip.

Hence the media must side with the left to keep our kids dumb downed or risk losing more of their control. I live right the street from our town's public high school and occasionally talk with some of the kids. All I can say is heaven help us.

MM - I'm with you on vouchers. In my single days, I dated a high school teacher who taught geography and history to 11th and 12th graders in a local high school in one of the better school districts in Virginia. I occasionally helped her grade her multiple choice tests, and was appalled when the class was asked:
France is
a. an island
b. a country
c. a city
d. a state

and 35% of the class got it wrong. The essay question was nearly always a disaster, being non grammatical, badly spelled, badly organized, and often flat wrong. On one exam, a kid submitted a beautifully written paragraph, which had nothing to do with the question asked; he simply memorized a passage from the book and reproduced it verbatim, obviously not comprehending the question or his memorized text.

I really do think we need the passing of a literacy and civics test as a voting rights requirement.
