" I don't think I've ever met a Liberal whom I didn't like on a personal basis. That said, if your goal is to change minds and influence people, it's probably not a good idea to begin by asserting that virtually all elected Democrats are liars. But what the hell."

Real Strange Crap
"On this past weekend's Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, comedian Bill Maher pointed to the liberal scriptwriters of NBC's West Wing for political guidance. Maher touted how "Alan Alda plays a Republican Senator who tells the Christian Right to go screw." Maher yearned: "Why can't we have that in real life?" - Brent Baker Blog
This got me to thinking about the fate of other entertainers America hates.  With debris from the Twin Towers still smoldering, Maher said, on his "Politically Incorrect" show, "We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building? Say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."  Viewers were furious, his ratings plummeted, and ABC canned him.  HBO gave him refuge with "Real Time," where he carries on, unshackled by the need to produce meaningful audience numbers.

Bryant Gumbel's on-air leftism turned to overt racism, and he became the most disliked personality on television.  After the Today Show canned him [ahem], CBS gave him a shot on  its own morning news program called The Early Show. Two people watched, and he was canned again. Bryant had sanctuary at HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.

HBO also airs some other smut called Real Sex. As near as I can tell, it's a vehicle where old, washed up  hippies, unable to gain tenure, and some other very unattractive people, teach and learn masturbation techniques. I'm pretty sure that had Robert Redford not come to Al Franken's rescue (Sundance Channel shows his Air America radio show every night), HBO would be airing Real Franky.  I also hear it was an HBO offer  to do a weekly called  Real Losers with Al Gore that prompted Gore to begin his own cable network called ... I forget.   The words "real losers," however, are muttered in my house every time I spin through HBO's late night lineup.

"I did not vote for Obama but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office he has collected more than $150,000 in back taxes."

The same company (Time Warner) that owns Time Magazine owns HBO. That is all you need to know.

It gives me great joy to report that their stock price 5 years ago was $52.11 and today it is 18.03.

It gives me greater joy to hear it.

Yes, HBO has shown in many cases a strong bias to the left. They are now running a show executive produced by John Milius of "Red Dawn" fame. "Rome". Milius is about as right wing as they get in the movie business.

WTF has time for this crap.

I hadn't watched TV since the end of football season last year and during the first Bronco preseason game this year, I swear I had an attack of culture shock. The first commercial break and those thereafter were ridiculous. TV is a toilet. I have much better things to do.

I've read elsewhere that "Rome" has so many historical mistakes that it hardly resembles what actually happened.

I do miss the roundtable on Brit's show though.

The only reason I keep HBO is for Deadwood, Curb Your Enthusiasm and the occasional made-for-HBO movie.

I agree with you about the Real Sex series. Every time I've peeked at an episode, I wish I hadn't.

Watching some ashen, flabby-assed hippie dude pump a dildo in/out of his horsy-faced, cesarean-scarred partner while she wails towards orgasm is enough to dry out my vaginal walls for a week.

His show is about the only one I can stomach on FoxNews anymore.

Cavuto's okay....a tad boring at times...but a least he's not a bloviating jackass like O'Reilly and Hannity.

I'll add Fox and Friends week days. Not for news value, that's why we have FreeRepublic ... I like it because I am never annoyed by left wing BS left unchallendged, and I like E.D. because she's the best.
