Suicidal glory is the luxury of the irresponsible.
We're not giving up. We're waiting for a better opportunity to win.

" I don't think I've ever met a Liberal whom I didn't like on a personal basis. That said, if your goal is to change minds and influence people, it's probably not a good idea to begin by asserting that virtually all elected Democrats are liars. But what the hell."

Washed up, Bette Midler tries to wrest some of the Manahatten bar Mitzvah gigs from Margaret Cho

MIDLER: I could stand up here and talk for hours (cheering) about ineptitude, stupidity (louder cheering), blame, in-e-qual-i-ty, global warming (cheering), the dangerous destruction of the wetlands. But if I did, what will all those other people have to talk about? I'm telling you these are -- these are not just dangerous times, these are -- these times are disastrous. We're surrounded by disasters! The war, the hurricane, the Fox News. (cheering) It just goes on and on. I get so depressed!

YAYYYYYYY

MIDLER: A terrible thing happened to me. Today I got a letter from the Republican Party thanking me (boos) thanking me, thanking me for supporting this administration's policies. I did what any self-respecting American of integrity and class would do, I wrote "Go fuck  yourself!" (wild cheering) I sent it back! Postage due!

YAYYYYYYY

MIDLER: I would never actually pick on George Bush, because, you know, he's a big fan of mine. He came to see me in the seventies, came to a show of mine in the seventies. A coke dealer of his, uh, got him some tickets, and... (cheers) Tonight we are here to be together, to help rebuild the Gulf coast, to help -- help rebuild the soul of America, the soul of America, New Orleans, New Orleans. We have to find a way to start listening to each other, to nature, and to the rest of the world, because who wants to live with so much danger.

I know that would make me dig deep ... you too, I bet?

Comments:

"I did not vote for Obama but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office he has collected more than $150,000 in back taxes."
Gayle Miller
After all the insulting, divisive, shit disturbing comments she made, she continues with this?

[We have to find a way to start listening to each other,] to nature, and to the rest of the world, because who wants to live with so much danger.

What a load of hypocritical excrement! joyce

What a speech! Midler is the reincarnation of Cicero. I'm so moved I think I'll go take a dump and name it after her.

It's difficult to know what's worse -- the shallow stupidity of her comments or the horrid, nasal whiny tone of her voice. I mean, what the hell? This woman is an actress of some ability who's experienced enough to know how to use her voice to affect. There's no way at all that was accidental; she chose that tone on purpose! Why? Did that actually appeal to the Libs in the audience? If so, it says as much about the petulance, maturity and stupidity of the target audience as it does about the speaker.

Stike up the band. Sing with me, folks:
"From a distance you look like my friend, even though we are at war. From a distance I just cannot comprehend what all this fighting is for." -- Bette Midler, "From A Distance"

How true that is! All this time I thought it was just a stupid song, and now I learn it's an autobiography! It's true - she cannot comprehend the imporance of preserving Western culture against Islamic cavemen and their brutish backwards religion of domanance. Perhaps Bette should go back to playing the part of a drunk hussy (e.g. "The Rose"). At least she's familiar with the material.
