The FCC has bitch slapped Campbell's Soup for presenting a bowl of soup in which clear glass marbles were placed to increase the apparent abundance of solid ingredients.  Similarly zapped was a commercial for a floor wax that depicted a genie popping out of the bottle.  Evidently some consumers complained that they didn't get a genie.  Whack! Cease and desist.  Wonder Bread  is proscribed from claiming it builds bodies 12 ways (prove it).  Blah blah blah.

In the soup case, the Commission called it "a tawdry practice." (Campbell Soup Co., 77 F.T.C. 664 - 1970).  Is it a "a tawdry practice" when media fail to report that, oh, let's say that the grieving mother demanding a meeting with the President of the United States already had one?  How long could the list of examples be?  Mine may be longer than yours, but yours is still pretty big.  Enjoy the vision of public debate when media passing on demonstrably false or misleading claims  face heavy fines and public censure.  Extrapolate and formulate.  Rat-a-tat-tat.
