I axed Merrily to read Bernard Goldberg's new book Top 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America, and tell us why he gave Jonathan Kozol the lofty # 9 slot, ahead of even Ralph Neas. Read her report below, and understand. It seems that Kozol is the godfather of the commie style Wahhabism that uses our education system to promote the leftist vision. I don't see any difference in Kozol and the muslimo extremist espousing the violent destruction of our way of life. But, that's just me.

Goldbergcalls him the patron saint of today's powerful liberal educational establishment.

• Author of books - Death at an Early Age, Savage Inequalities.Fierce opponent of traditional learnining, "deadens children's souls."
• "Indeed, the once-outrageous idea that teachers should use their classrooms to espouse liberal/radical political views - i.e., to propagandize - can be traced directly to Jonathan Kozol."
• Embraces Cuban teaching methods/schools.

• "Taking as his starting point the crude Marxist view that education in all societies is a 'system of indoctrination,' 'an instrument of the state,' he worked out a method by which teachers could subvert capitalist America's bad indoctrination and - cleverly and subtly - substitute some good left-wing indoctrination in its place."

Kozol, after visiting Cuba, wrote the book, On Being a Teacher, in the mid-70s. Encouraged skepticism of authority. He wrote about, "those ordinary but pathetic figures who went in Watergate to steal....into My Lai to kill - among other reasons, because they lacked the power to say no." Cites Eichmann, enourages teachers to tell kids that his "preparation for obedient behavior was recieved in German public schools"- which produced "good Germans, or good citizens, as we in the United States would say."

Sol Stern said - "All the book's model lessons aim to teach little children to withstand America's state-sponsored brainwashing and to open them up to the self-evident truths of feminism, environmentalism, and the Left's account of history. At the end of the book, Lozol thoughtfully provides a long list of left-wing publications and organizations - including the information agencies of the Chinese and Cuban governments - where teachers can get worthwhile classroom materials."

Goldberg notes that it is alarming because Kozol is admired in the education establishment, and his ideas are put into practive every day in classrooms all across America, from preschool to high school.
