As a  yoot, I spent much of my summer at Gramma's and Grampa's farm in Lewis, Indiana.  This was during McKinley, I think.  Anyway, not only did Lewis not observe daylight savings time, like back home in Chicago, they said it was 9:15 when everyone else said it was 8:00 (DST).  I liked it.  Yesterday the Indiana gummint caved, and the state will observe daylight savings time along with the rest of the real United States (Alaska and Hawaii are territories, dammit). If I'm not mistaken, the principle roadblock to messing with the time were Indiana's farmers, who liked milking the cows in daylight, and going to bed when it got dark.  I guess Indiana will be getting all their food from California like the rest of us now, which is really shortsighted because California will be at the bottom of the ocean soon as punishment for Boxer, Feinstein, and Berkeley.  Sigh.
