We bought this (in black) a year ago, so I have good experience to draw on.  Mother Superior was drawn to the convection idea since our oven, an excellent product, (Gaggenau convection) is kind of small.  She figured a convection microwave would give her a second option when we needed extra baking capacity - like at Christmas time.  That's pretty much how it has worked out, but I would never buy this product again. Here's why.

    First, while the interior is a very spacious 1.5 Cu Ft, you have nowhere near that in actual use.  Why?  Like many microwaves, the Whirlpool uses a revolving cooking platform, but YOU MUST USE it when microwaving.  If your food isn't revolving, it simply will not cook.  That may not sound like a big drawback, but it is.  Since the interior is a rectangle, anything that hangs over the edge of the circular rotating plate will hit the side of the oven and - even though the plate keeps rotating underneath -  the food will only cook on the edges.  This is engineering stupidity.

    The pre-programmed cooking cycles work fairly well, but not well enough to trust.  Hitting POPCORN will undercook fresh popcorn and overcook microwavable corn - sometimes.  With 1000 Watts of power, it's very easy to over cook anything, but I won't complain about that.  Lots of power= Good.

    In actual use, we seldom use the convection oven feature, but it works fine - just like ... a convection oven.  The idea is a good one, but I suggest that you look at other products than this pricey ($360) Whirlpool Gold.  And, NEVER buy any microwave that REQUIRES that the food rotate in order to cook.  Ay Carumba.
