Why do you trust this man?

Catch this comrade Wally Maybe someone can tell me how Walter Cronkite came to be called the The Most Trusted Man in America? I'm not saying he wasn't; in fact I grew up watching AIR POWER and YOU ARE THERE, two television shows hosted by Wally. The problem is, our trust was misplaced. When people began to question the Warren Commission findings on Kennedy's assassination, it was Uncle Wally who was trotted forth to "prove" their judgement about Oswald. Then, there was Vietnam. Old Wally is credited with turning Americans against the war, and he probably did. Nice pass comrade Joey

In his autobiography, A Reporter's Life, (30¢ at Amazon) Cronkite revealed himself to be more than your average left wing propagandist:

"If we are to avoid that catastrophe [a nuclear World War III], a system of world order -- preferably a system of world government -- is mandatory. The proud nations someday will see the light and, for the common good and their own survival, yield up their precious sovereignty, just as America's thirteen colonies did two centuries ago. When we finally come to our senses and establish a world executive and parliament of nations, thanks to the Nuremburg precedent we will already have in place the fundamentals for the third branch of government, the judiciary." -- Walter Cronkite in his book A Reporter's Life.

Cronkite contended on Monday's Larry King Live that, 9-11 occurred "because we hog so much of the world's wealth while many are destitute".

The people of the world "who don't have adequate housing, don't have adequate hospitalization, don't have adequate medical care, don't have adequate education ... are not going to live forever in the shadow of the riches that we display constantly."
