![]() Hey, maybe the "Shaming Pole" can be a modern day dunking chair? Think about it. It's only since we stopped the public shaming of scolds, shrews, and nags that organizations like PeTA, Sierra Club, Greenpeace and the Democratic party have been allowed to fester. Hmmmm? Ask your legislator to propose it. |
Problem is shame is gone from criminal justice lexicon. We must help rehabilitate offenders nowadays.
ReplyDeleteA day in public stocks accompanied by a sign with name and offense might be a fine curative and preventive for misdemeanors, unlike jail, where beginning criminals associate with the wrong people and often come out wearing their jail time as a badge of honor among their new friends.
As far as Peta et al are concerned, shrewing, scolding nagging, perpetual angry or sad facial expressions, lying, or lecturing in a condescending, supercilious manner, are all qualifications for membership.
Since they are already generally defective personalities, shaming might make us feel better, but ain't gonna do anything to change them. A shaming pole or stocks would be a welcome platform for them to preach about their martyrdom for the cause, unless we add duct taping to the sentence.
Ahh, fugget. Throw 'em in solitary.
