" I don't think I've ever met a Liberal whom I didn't like on a personal basis. That said, if your goal is to change minds and influence people, it's probably not a good idea to begin by asserting that virtually all elected Democrats are liars. But what the hell."

Bad thoughts
The WaPost printed the news about the actual circumstances of Pat Tillman's death earlier in the week, but I've been waiting for a second opinion from a reliable source. A WSJ editorial today provides it ("A Ranger's Death -- II")

(excerpt)

"Now, more than a year later, an Army report on Tillman's death reveals a shocking story of delay and coverup, along with callous disregard for the feelings of Tillman's family. The responsibility begins with soldiers in his unit and extends all the way up the chain of command to General John Abizaid, who was then the commander of the Afghan theater. News of the report, and the Tillman family's response to it, were published this month in the Washington Post.

"The Army initially said Corporal Tillman had been killed by enemy fire as he was storming a hill along the Pakistani border. In fact, his death was caused by friendly fire, a fact apparent almost immediately to men in his unit, who destroyed key evidence such as Tillman's body armor and uniform. The real cause of his death was also apparent early on to high-level officers, but the Tillman family was not informed until a formal investigation had been concluded several weeks after his nationally televised memorial service."

First off, friendly fire combat deaths are an inevitable consequence of war, and should never be treated differently than hostile fire casualties. That said, I remember this. Way back, when I first discovered that Tillman had enlisted, I reported it here. A comment bothered me then, enough that I am able to go right to it today.

"My brother tells me that the Cardinal's guy thinks he's hot shit. The Ranger CO's smoke him as much as they can."

"I did not vote for Obama but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office he has collected more than $150,000 in back taxes."
